Black Sands Swim Squad retained their dominance in swimming excellence as its forty nine competing swimmers won the Top Club Trophy at the third Scotia Bank Invitational swim meet held at Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre from 10th to 12th February 2017.
Boys Joshua Weinhardt (1 Silver, 4yrs), Aaron Laidlow (5yrs),Benjamin Cyrus (1 Gold, 6yrs), Joseph Hadley (7yrs)Liam Hadley, Chayse Roberts (3 bronze) and Ethan Balcombe (8yrs) and girls Eltonique Leonard (5 Gold, 6yrs), Amara Eudovique (1 Bronze) and Kathryn Cumberbatch (3 silver and 3 bronze, 8yrs) formed part of the team swimming in the 8 years and under category with each swimmer achieving personal best times.
Representing Black Sands in the Girls and Boys 9 to 10 years age category were Miss Kiana Bailey, Kevern DaSilva, Scarlet Hadley, Caitlin Polious (5 gold and 3 bronze) and Jamie Joachim (1 Gold 3 Silver and 2 Bronze) and Mr Eltonte’ Leonard (6 Gold, 2 Bronze), J’Dani Pompey, Jayson Sandy (3 Gold 5 Silver and 1 Bronze) and Vorva Zhuravlov (1 Bronze). There were great swims from all the swimmers in this age group with all swimmers making personal best times and the likes of Leonard, Sandy, Polious and Joachim swimming themselves to times that make them great contenders in their age group throughout the region.
Miss Paige Cadogan (5 gold), Akayla Chrichton (1 gold, 4 silver and 2 Bronze), Mya Defreitas (4 gold, 2 bronze) and Mr Kenalle Allene (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 Bronze), Tristan Ballah (1 silver 2 bronze), Bryson George (3 silver) Edward Graverson, Noah Hadley, Terrance Providence (2 bronze) and Gabriel Sutherland all made up the 11 to 12yrs age group. This age group is the first age group that is eligible to compete at the CARIFTA and Bryson George swam himself to his first ever CARIFTA qualifying time in the 50 meters butterfly.
In the Girls and Boys 13 to 14yrs age group Miss Ria Adams (6 golds), Isabelle Brackin (1 gold, 2 silver) and Mr Daniel Bailey (4 bronze), Adriel Bullock, Alex Joachim (11 Gold 2 Silver), Tyrese Lewis (1 gold, 5 Silver, 1 Bronze), Anwar Medjahed and Tyrique Thomas (2 silver and 2 bronze) all competed to the high standard that Black Sands trains its swimmers to.
Miss Nyah Isaacs (6 golds) and Morennell Olliviere (3 Silver) and Mr Khori Brown, Shane Cadogan (5 gold) Alexander Cyrus (1 bronze) Sebastian Cyrus, Aaron Defreitas (4 silver, 2 bronze) Dillon Gooding (1 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze) Cruz Halbich (4 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze) Kyle John (1 bronze) and Deelan Neddd were Black Sands older swimmers competing in the 15yrs and over age category.
Black Sands coach Kyle Dougan said “This was a great competition to start off 2017. It was organized extremely well by the SVG Swimming Federation with great sponsorship from Scotia Bank“. He went on to say “this has enabled me to see what stage our swimmers are at and from what I saw over the three day competition, many Black Sands swimmers will be representing their club and country well throughout 2017“
