Scotiabank Invitational Swim Meet

fitzaudy-wright-paige-cadogan-danielle-wright-akayla-crichtonThe Scotiabank Invitational Swim Meet was held February 12th to 14th, 2016 at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Center (SAC) in Ratho Mill. The event featured over 75 young swimmers from four swim clubs including Dolphins Swim Club from Grenada and Bequia United Swim Club.

The Overall Club Champion was Black Sands Swim Squad followed in second place by Blue Marlins Swim Club.  The Scotiabank Invitational featured some excellent individual performances by:

  • Kennice Greene (Blue Marlins) who won every race she swam on her way to claiming the overall girls 7 to 8 years old Championship. Kennice also broke 7 SVG age group SVG records.
  • Brandon George (Blue Marlins) won the overall championships in a close battle with Matthew Ballah in the boys 7 to 8 years old category.

  • Tia Gun-Munro (Black Sands) narrowly edged Mya Defreitas for the overall championship in the girls 9 to 10 year age category. Tia and Mya each set two new national records.
  • Tristan Ballah (Blue Marlins) beat Jayson Sandy and Eltonte Leonard into second and third places respectively when winning the Boys 9 to 10 year old category.
  • Paige Cadogan (Black Sands) beat Danielle Wright into second place on her way to winning the girls age 10 to 12 overall Championship.
  • Alex Joachim (Black Sands) won all his races and set three new national records on his way to claiming the Boys age 11 to 12 years overall championship.
  • Ria Adams and Shane Cadogan respectively won the girls and boys age 13 to 14 overall championships while Kaylah Ollivierre and Nikolas Sylvester respectively won the girls and boys age 15 and over overall championships. All these swimmers represented Black Sands Swim squad.

The SVGSF are extremely grateful to Scotiabank for their continued support to swimming. We are very pleased to see the continued development and progress of our young swimmers.

The SVGSF will be sending a team to compete at the upcoming Carifta swimming Championships to be held in Martinique in late March. Swimmers who have met the qualifying standards are Nikolas Sylvester, Cruz Halbich, Shane Cadogan, Alexander Joachim and Shne Joachim. The final team will be announced after the upcoming Barbados National Championships in a couple weeks.
