St Vincent and the Grenadines sent three swimmers to compete at the FINA World Championships held in Gwangju, South Korea. The swimming competition was held between July 21st and July 27th. The athletes were Mya Defreitas, Shane Cadogan and Alex Joachim and the coach was Kyle Dougan.
Our athletes performed very well with all three either setting personal best times or being very close to those personal best times.
13 year-old Mya Defreitas swam in her first World Championships. Her results were both personal best times and were:
- In the 200 Meter Freestyle event, Mya swam a time of 2 minutes, 15.48 seconds. She broke the SVG National Open record.
- In the 100 Meter Freestyle race, Mya swam a time of 1 minute, 3.91 seconds and broke the SVG record for girls aged 13 to 14.
16 year-old Alex Joachim also swam in his first World Championships. His results were both personal best times and were:
- In the 100 Meter Freestyle, Alex swam a time of 54.96 seconds. This broke the previous SVG National Open record.
- In the 100 Meter Breaststroke event, Alex swam a time of 1 minute, 8.14 seconds. This broke the previous SVG National Open record.
18 year-old Shane Cadogan swam two events and both times were very close to his personal best times:
