TEN IN A ROW MEDAL STREAK AT CARIFTA 2024

Kione Deshong preserves SVG’s medal winning streak!!

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation (SVGSF) national swim team have returned from the Carifta Aquatics Championships 2024 hosted in the Bahamas March March 30th to April 2nd, 2024. We have extended our medal winning streak to ten (10)) consecutive Carifta’s over the last 12 years (there was no Carifta for two years during Covid).

The Carifta Aquatics Championships is the premier swimming championships in the Caribbean with 25 countries invited and over 400 of the best swimmers in the region.

Kione Deshong

Kione Deshong, swimming in the first year of the boys age 11 to 12 category secured a Bronze medal with his 3rd place finish in the 100 Meter Breaststroke event on the last day of the competition in a personal best time of 1 minute 22.79 seconds. Kione also placed fifth in each of the 50 meter breaststroke and 100 meter Breaststroke events. He set five new personal best times.

SVG had three additional swimmers who qualified for finals events. These were:

  • Hazen Dabriel competing in the boys age 13 to14 category and in his first Carifta championships made the finals in 4 events and also set 4 personal bets times.
  • Caghry Williams, swimming in his first year of the boys 11 to 12 age group, performed very well and qualified for the finals in 3 events (the 50, 100 and 200 meter Breaststroke events).
  • Kennice Greene, swimming in the girls 15 to 17 age group qualified for two final events in the 50 meter Butterfly and 50 meter Freestyle. Kennice finished in 4th the 50 Free.

Our girls in the age 15 to 17 age group made the finals in two relay events which were the 4 x 100 meter Freestyle relay and the 4 x 50 meter Freestyle relay.

The SVGSF extends its congratulations to the swimmers and their coaches on the performances at Carifta.
